cool conversation

so this is really geeky and long but here is a video about the future of blogging and how it is needed in business. i just listened to it while i was getting some other stuff done on my computer…. you’ll notice if you watch, there is some random guy down there that doesn’t talk at all… they don’t even know his name, poor guy. so ya if you feel like being geeky (and i have a feeling i know who you are) then have a look

  1. ‘cool’ might be strong… and ‘really geeky and long’ is definitely an understatement.. .is it actually a full hour, I don’t see myself making it to the end and I know I was who you were talking about as wanting to be geeky (and actually almost all of your comments referencing a buddy or friend are me, do you talk to anyone else)… but yeah, thanks for the link none the less.. even the first 15min have some interesting insight.

  2. Really geeky and long is absolutely an understatement. :-)

Do you guys think this would be useful for a business person who was thinking about delving into the world of social media?

  3. Simon might be able to comment a little more appropriately, as that is a field he is more familiar with, for my two cents, which I love to give out freely on this site, I think absolutely this is useful for any business person. If what they say comes true or not, knowing someone elses opinion is always useful…. I happen to think they are fairly correct in their discussion, and I would guess online resources are by far the most popular way for people to research a business… and I think they are ahead of the curve, and probably give blogs too much credit for the right now…. I do think that it will catch up though and fast. From a social media point of view I would almost think this is required viewing though as it is the opinions of some of the people that rather heavily involved in current social media… and by far if you were ever asked to defend, or at least talk about current trends in social media, it would be these arguments that you would want to be able to reference.

  4. ya i think the video gives you some good rationale as to why blogging is important… i think really useful would be that conversation in 15min… its still pretty useful at an hour though. tyler, i’d say more that they aren’t ahead of the curve totally… more that they don’t explicitly state the demographic that is using it. so the importance of blogging lies in if those people are in your demographic…

  5. … and as I said, Simon will be able to comment more appropriately….. would it be ok for me to say “that’s what I wanted to say” now? The one thing I might change in Simon’s comment is that he says it shows why blogging is important.. where as I think all forms of social media (from wiki’s to facebook, to myspace, and blogs) are being highlighted…

  6. true true, i left out myspace because i hate those sparkly, gaudy pages. ya i over defined blogging… but while there are a lot of different areas to this media, i think blogging is the one business can be most instantly gratified with. just seeing your brand name up higher on a google search is a pretty good ROI… well if those posts are saying the things they want…
